North Central Claims Inaugural CCIW Women’s Wrestling Championship

NAPERVILLE – Powered by eight first-place finishes and two runner-up showings, North Central tallied 112.5 team points on its way to winning the inaugural College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Championship, Sunday afternoon at Gregory Arena in Naperville, Ill.
 
Aurora, which had two individual champions, finished second with 41.5 points. Augustana (25.5 points) was third, followed by Carthage (24.5 points) and Lakeland (22.5 points).

NCC individual champions were Madison Avila (101 pounds), Angelina Graff (109), Jaslynn Gallegos (116), Amani Jones (123), Kendall Bostelman (143), Tiera Jimerson (155), Yelena Makoyed (170) and Traeh Haynes (191).
 
Aurora freshman Alexis Janiak won the 130-pound bracket to be named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. North Central’s Joe Norton was voted CCIW Coach of the Year, while the Cardinals’ Shelby Ottum was the league’s first-ever Elite 26 Award winner in women’s wrestling.
