NAPERVILLE – London Houston, a junior at North Central, has been voted College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Houston’s selection marks the first weekly women’s wrestling award from the conference for the 2023-24 season.
Houston, a Federal Way, Wash. native and the nation’s top-ranked individual at 143 pounds, bumped up a weight class to win the 155-pound bracket at the Pointer Open on Saturday in Stevens Point, Wis. She won the title match versus-second ranked Nina Maken of Augsburg, securing a late takedown to win on criteria, 4-4, and win her first collegiate tournament championship.
The day began for Houston with a 32-second pin in the round of 16 before a win via technical fall (12-0) in the quarterfinals. Houston defeated teammate Tiera Jimerson in the semifinal in another tech fall, 11-0.
