NAPERVILLE – North Central junior Amani Jones, the NWCA’s top-ranked wrestler at 123 pounds, has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week.
Jones roared through the 32-woman field of the 123-pound bracket at the North Central Invitational on Sunday to earn the individual title.
The Locust Grove, Ga. native is now a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in her career after putting up a 5-0 mark on Sunday. Her first two matches ended in pinfall in less than a minute. In the quarterfinals, Jones dispatched Isabelle Silva of Indiana Tech with a 10-0 technical fall before pinning Iowa’s Cali Leng in the semifinals.
Jones claimed the title via technical fall, beating Ava Rose of Iowa, 10-0. She joins teammates Kendra Ryan and London Houston as CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week award recipients in 2023-24.
