NAPERVILLE – North Central senior Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez picked up a pair of wins in the Cardinals’ spring season-opening dual win to earn College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Gonzalez Fernandez, the first CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week recipient in men’s tennis in 2023, was a key figure in NCC’s 7-2 victory at regionally ranked Kalamazoo last Friday. The Madrid, Spain native teamed with Ramon Vilarroig for an 8-7 win at #1 doubles. Gonzalez Fernandez later went the distance to win his #4 singles matchup in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 over the Hornets’ Casey Johnson.
