NAPERVILLE – North Central distance specialist Luke Hoffmann and Carroll thrower Steven Hermsen have been chosen as College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athletes of the Week in Men’s Outdoor Track, according to a Wednesday afternoon announcement from the league office.
Hoffmann, a sophomore from Elmwood, Ill., recorded the league’s fastest 2023 time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at NCC’s First Chance Invitational last Friday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville. His time of 9:26.79 was a career best and good enough for second place in the 19-person field.
Hermsen loomed large for the Pioneers at the Rex Foster Twilight hosted by Wisconsin-Whitewater last Friday, sweeping victories in the discus, hammer throw and shot put. All three of his final marks – 58.32 meters in the discus, 55.03 meters in the hammer throw and 15.50 meters in the shot put – were career bests. His effort in the discus is currently the top performance in Division III in 2023.
