NAPERVILLE – North Central’s Max Svienty (track) and Carthage’s Joseph White (field) are the first recipients of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week award for men’s outdoor track & field, the league announced Wednesday. Both Svienty and White received the honor during the 2022-23 indoor season.
Svienty, who won the 3,000 meters at the CCIW Indoor Championships in February, produced the fastest time of his career in the 10,000 meters (29:14.28) at WashU’s Distance Carnival last Friday in St. Louis. It was the fourth-fastest time in NCC history and broke a Francis Stadium record that had stood for 16 years.
The performance from the Arlington Heights, Ill. native was also third-fastest in Division III this spring.
White maintained the momentum from his indoor season that ended with national titles in the shot put and weight throw by sweeping the shot put and hammer throw at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Sunday in Waukesha.
His 16.90-meter effort in the shot put is the top mark in the nation in 2023 and his hammer-throw performance of 60.38 meters ranks third. The junior from Kenosha, who was a six-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the week during the 2022-23 indoor season, also finished fourth in the discus on Sunday.
