NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tabbed Millikin’s Alyssa Ruiz and North Central’s Alex Draves as the first Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the 2023 season, according to a Wednesday announcement.

Ruiz set a new Millikin record with a time of 4:37.32 in 1,500 meters at the WashU Distance Carnival last weekend in St. Louis. The performance by the junior from San Diego was the fastest in the CCIW this spring and the 11th-fastest time in Division III.

Draves, an All-American and a five-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week during the 2022-23 indoor season, began the outdoor schedule with new lifetime bests in a pair of events at the Spartan Opener hosted by Dubuque last Sunday. She was the runner up in the hammer throw with a final mark of 54.16 meters – fifth-best in the nation in 2023 – and also threw the discus 39.28 meters.
