WAUKESHA, Wis. – Powered by nine individual event wins and two relay victories, North Central piled up 184 team points to secure its fourth consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Saturday afternoon in Waukesha, Wis.
NCC’s Lindsey Novak was voted Track Student-Athlete of the Meet and Faith Ladin was selected Field Student-Athlete of the Meet. Novak swept victories in the 200 meters (24.45 seconds) and 400 meters (56.29 seconds) while also playing a key role in the Cardinals’ wins in the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays.
Ladin was the winner in the heptathlon with 4,554 points, placing first or second in all seven events.
Alexandra Draves (hammer throw), Gwen Berenyi (pole vault), Hannah Jones (javelin), Julia Babinec (100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles) and Marcedes Jackson (100 meters) also delivered victories to vault NCC to its 13th CCIW women’s outdoor title since 1987.
Elmhurst was the team runner-up with 116 points, edging third-place Carthage by a single team point. EU’s Alyssa Rafuse was the first-place finisher in both the 800 (2:15.14) and the 1,500 (4:36.43). Aubrey Schoeneman of Carthage won the shot put at 13.61 meters, one of four Firebirds to finish among the top five in the event.
North Central, under the direction of 21st-year head coach Kari Kluckhorn, was the recipient of the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year award. Illinois Wesleyan freshman Adrianna Crabtree, who won the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday and placed third in the 1500 on Saturday, was selected CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year.
