NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Women’s Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday for matches played between Monday, Oct. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Offensive: Liesl Whitener, Augustana, Fifth Year (Belleville, Ill.)
Tuesday’s announcement was the second CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week award in 2024 for Whitener, who had two goals and an assist in last Wednesday’s regular-season finale against Elmhurst. The final decision – a 3-0 Augustana victory – vaulted the Vikings into the CCIW Tournament.
Whitener scored her fifth match-winning goal of the season when she opened the scoring with a strike in the 28th minute. She doubled Augie’s lead with another tally at 42:00 and then assisted on Abby DeGustino’s insurance goal in the 74th minute.
Defensive: Kassandra Salviola, North Central, Junior (Naperville, Ill.)
Salviola scored her ninth goal of the season in the Cardinals’ 4-0 win at Wheaton last Wednesday. Her 28th-minute goal came as part of a 12-minute burst midway through the first in which NCC built a 3-0 lead.
Salviola also starred at the defensive end in NCC’s win, playing 64 minutes and helping limit the Thunder to just five shot attempts. The final result marked North Central’s seventh consecutive shutout victory.
