NAPERVILLE – North Central senior Sara Sterner won the 131-pound weight class at the Pointer Open last Saturday and on Tuesday became the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week.
Tuesday’s announcement made Sterner the first CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2024-25 women’s wrestling season.
Sterner, a Morro Bay, Calif. Native, opened with a fall over Wartburg's Khylie Wainwright before pinning Grand Valley State's Hannah Palise in the quarterfinals. She defeated teammate Eliana White-Vega 3-2 in the semifinal round before pinning returning All-American and sixth-ranked Ngao Shoua Whitethorn of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the championship bout.
