CCIW Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week (Dec. 17)

NAPERVILLE – Nadia Thomas of North Central won the North Central Women’s Open on Sunday, making her the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Thomas collected five wins en route to the 117-pound title – three tech falls and two pins. The freshman from Lehi, Utah opened the day with an 11-0 blanking of Haley Teter and a 10-0 win over Midland’s Destiny Castillo. Next was a 14-2 tech fall in the quarterfinals versus Alexis Hart-Butcher of Midland.
 
In the final two rounds, Thomas pinned Ava Miller of Indiana Techin the semifinal in 1:24, then capped the day with a pinfall at 3:47 in the first-place match over William Jewell’s Miyah Palacios.
 
Thomas earned two five-point throws during competition on Sunday, awarded for “grand amplitude” and extraordinary technical on a scoring throw in freestyle wrestling.
