CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships Begin Friday in Naperville

NAPERVILLE – North Central will be the host of the 2024 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m. at Al B. Carius Track in Naperville.
 
The host Cardinals are the favorites to win both the men’s and women’s team titles, according to a poll conducted by head coaches last week. NCC claimed both championships last season.

North Central is the men’s favorite with eight first-place votes and the maximum point total of 64 points. The Cardinals scored 149 points as a team last season to win their sixth consecutive CCIW indoor championship and their 21st crown since 2001.
 
Carthage – with one first-place vote – and Millikin tied for the second spot in the men’s poll with 53 points. Illinois Wesleyan was fourth with 43 points.

The women’s pre-championship poll had a razor-thin margin at the top, with reigning champion North Central clipping Elmhurst by a single point for the top position. The Cardinals had five first-place votes and 61 total points, while the Bluejays notched the remaining four first-place votes and 60 points. The Cardinals won last season’s title with 144.5 points, three points ahead of runner-up Elmhurst. It was the closest margin of victory at the CCIW Championships since 2015.
 
Illinois Wesleyan was third in the women’s poll with 45 points, followed by 43 points for Carthage in fourth position.
 
Pentathlon and heptathlon events will get the championships started on Friday morning. The distance medley relays will close out Friday competition. Competition resumes at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The individual and team awards presentation is slated for approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday night.
 
Admission is cash only. Adult admission is $10 per day, while admission for seniors (65+), students and children ages 6-14 is $5 per day. Children ages 5 and younger will receive free admission. Current students at a CCIW institution will receive free admission when presenting a student ID.
