NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan senior Emma Thorman was named CCIW Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Year on Thursday afternoon. Additionally, IWU freshman Emily Gastrau was selected CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year and 10th-year IWU head coach Patrick Freeman was tabbed CCIW Coach of the Year for the sixth time.

Thorman, who was the medalist at the CCIW Championship last October matched the lowest three-round total (218) in the event’s history, averaged 75.2 per round this season. The Macomb, Ill. native won four tournaments, including five top-5 finishes and seven top-10 performances. She was selected CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 20 and March 27.

Gastrau, a freshman from Wauwatosa, Wis., posted an average of 80.2 in her first collegiate season. Her career-best round was 74 at the IWU Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course, one of seven rounds below 80 this season. She placed in the top-10 of a tournament twice and three times in the top-20.

Freeman led the Titans to their third CCIW title in the last four years as well as their seventh since 2015 last October at Metamora Field Golf Club. IWU’s final team total was 886, a three-round CCIW Championship record. Freeman previously earned CCIW Coach of the Year honors in 2015-18 and 2022.

The Titans are currently ranked seventh nationally in the most recent Mizuno Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches Poll released on May 3 and will participate in the NCAA Division III Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. on May 21-24.
