NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan’s Pablo Castro set an IWU single-round record with a 64 at last month’s NCAA Division III Preview to secure College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week honors in men’s golf on Wednesday morning.
Castro earned a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Preview at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. on Sept. 21-23. The first round was played at the par-71, 6,856-yard Las Colinas, while the final two rounds were played at the par-72, 6,750-yard El Campeon course.
The Palatine, Ill. native set a career-best 54-hole best of 211 (four-under par) after his rounds of 77-70-64. Castro’s program-record tying 64 (eight-under) in the final round was also a career-best. In a field that included the top-15 teams in the country, Castro aided the Titans in their climb from 22nd-place after the first round to a fourth-place finish, just four strokes shy of winners, #6 Emory.
