NAPERVILLE — North Central College’s Riley Rayome was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after claiming the 124-pound title at the Pointer Women’s Open on Saturday.
The freshman from Shenandoah, Texas finished 4-0 on the day and scored 21.0 team points to lead the Cardinals. Her tournament run was highlighted by a victory over returning All-American and third-ranked Aspen Blasko of Grand Valley State, whom she pinned in the championship bout in 3:25.
Rayome opened the day with a first-period fall (1:45) over Miriam Hopson of Grand Valley State before adding another pin (1:27) in the quarterfinal against Ayane Jasinski of Wartburg. She advanced to the finals with a 14-6 decision over Aurora’s Natasha Markoutsis in the semifinals.
