NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll both gained ground in the new D3hoops.com poll released Monday. The Titans surged ahead four places to No. 13, while Carroll climbed eight spots to No. 16 in the new national rankings.
Additionally, IWU was up five spots to 20th in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll unveiled Tuesday, while Carroll made its first appearance in the coaches’ poll at 25th.
The Titans won the Midwest Challenge at the Shirk Center last weekend, earning a pair of victories over ranked opponents. IWU toppled 16th-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday afternoon, 64-53, then turned around for a 59-54 triumph over No. 15 WashU on Sunday. The Titans are now 4-2 overall this season, having played four of their first six contests against nationally ranked foes.
Carroll also won twice last week – a 73-52 win over Chicago last Tuesday and an 86-74 victory over Ripon Sunday. Both the Maroons and Red Hawks are receiving votes in each new poll. The Pioneers are now 5-2 and have won three straight games since Nov. 22.
