NAPERVILLE — Jasmin Ocampo, a freshman at Carthage, earned College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week honors in women’s wrestling on Tuesday after a runner-up finish at the Carthage Classic last Sunday.
Wrestling at 207 pounds, Ocampo, a Palatine, Ill. native, reached the final with three straight victories by fall.
Ocampo began the event with a pin over North Central’s Mackenzie Conklin before recording additional falls against Aubrey Miller-Ramirez of Lakeland and Tayla Phillips of Eureka. She closed the tournament in the title match with a narrow 2-1 decision loss to Wisconsin–Stevens Point’s Kate Riege to place second overall.
The effort from Ocampo helped Carthage earn a fourth-place finish at its home tournament.
