NAPERVILLE – College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men’s volleyball champion Carthage will host 10th-ranked Aurora in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
The Firebirds (22-3) are the automatic qualifier from the CCIW for the national postseason after claiming the league’s tournament championship versus Loras last Saturday afternoon in Kenosha. Carthage held steady at #6 in the new American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll released on Tuesday.
Monday’s announcement marks the ninth all-time national tournament bid for the Firebirds.
Fourth-ranked Springfield and #20 Mount Union will also play Friday at Tarble Arena, a 4 p.m. start. The winners of Friday’s matches will meet Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with a berth to the national semifinals on the line.
