KENOSHA, Wis. — Carthage saw its run in the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Tournament come to an end Saturday night in a five-set loss to Springfield.
Carthage opened strong with a 25-23 first-set win, led by Ben Heise and Owen Hendricks. The Pride answered with back-to-back set victories, 25-21 and 25-18, before the Firebirds forced a fifth with a dominant 25-18 fourth set. Springfield pulled ahead with a late run in the final frame to take the match, 15-8.
Owen Hendricks paced the Firebirds with a team-high 14 kills, followed by Ben Heise with 13 and Owen Otto with 12. Ryan Morey directed the offense with a match-leading 42 assists. Zack Noland anchored the defense, recording a team-best 15 digs.
