Illinois Wesleyan, Carroll Rise in National Polls After CCIW Wins

NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll were both ranked in the latest national women’s basketball polls released earlier this week, keeping two teams from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) in the Top 25.
 
Both programs appeared in the D3hoops.com Top 25 and the WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches’ Poll after combining for four conference victories over the past week.

Illinois Wesleyan remains unbeaten in conference play and sits atop the CCIW standings. The Titans are ranked No. 16 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 18 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll.
 
IWU most recently earned a decisive 77-39 road victory at North Park last Saturday. Freshman Caitlin Leyden led the Titans with 16 points, while senior Sawyer White contributed 11 points, seven assists, and six steals. Illinois Wesleyan returns home to host Millikin on Wednesday.

Carroll climbed to No. 20 in the D3hoops.com rankings and is tied for No. 23 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll after posting two conference wins during the week.
 
The Pioneers edged Elmhurst 88-83 last Wednesday before pulling away late in an 82-64 victory over Millikin on Saturday. Senior Natalie Gricius recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Elmhurst, then followed with 33 points and 11 rebounds versus Millikin. She was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
 
Julia Lokker added 21 points against the Bluejays. Carroll will travel to North Central on Wednesday.
