Titans Climb, Pioneers Hold Steady as CCIW Places Two in National Top 25

NAPERVILLE — National recognition remains a constant for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), as Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll again appeared in both major NCAA Division III women’s basketball polls this week. The Titans are ranked No. 13 by D3hoops.com and tied for No. 15 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll, while Carroll checks in at No. 20 and No. 24, respectively, as the Pioneers continue conference play at 6-1.

Illinois Wesleyan (12-4, 7-0 CCIW) enjoyed one of the biggest moves in the national rankings after a perfect week in league play. The Titans climbed three spots to No. 13 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 and rose from 18th to a tie for No. 15 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll. Their rise followed a dominant 76-48 win over Millikin and a hard-fought 77-71 comeback victory against Wheaton. Seniors Ava Bardic and Sawyer White paced the Wheaton win with 26 and 25 points, respectively, as IWU preserved its unbeaten conference record.

Carroll (12-4, 6-1 CCIW) also held firm in the national picture after two important road victories. The Pioneers remained No. 20 in the D3hoops.com poll and are ranked No. 24 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll. Carroll opened the week with a 78-74 win at North Central behind Julia Lokker’s 26-point performance, then followed with a 75-71 victory at Augustana, where Emilie Wizner scored 23 points and Natalie Gricius converted late free throws to secure the win.

Both ranked teams return to conference action on Wednesday with Illinois Wesleyan traveling to Carthage and Carroll hosting North Park at Van Male Fieldhouse.
