Wheaton's Richardson Claims CCIW Men’s Basketball Weekly Award

NAPERVILLE — Wheaton junior guard Soren Richardson was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the week on Monday after leading the Thunder to a 94-85 home victory over North Park on Saturday at King Arena.

Richardson, a native of Northfield, Minn., finished with a game-high 26 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and connecting on three 3-pointers. He added six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.

With Wheaton’s 22-point halftime lead trimmed to five (77–72) midway through the second half, Richardson knocked down a contested three-pointer from nearly 30 feet to halt North Park’s momentum. The basket sparked an 11-0 Thunder run over the next two and a half minutes, during which Richardson recorded a steal, an assist and a defensive rebound that led to a transition basket.

Richardson earned his third Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season. The win improved Wheaton to 11-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
