NAPERVILLE — Carroll and Illinois Wesleyan both appeared in the latest D3hoops.com and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III national polls following last week’s meeting between the two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contenders.
Carroll (14-4, 8-1 CCIW) moved up four spots to No. 16 in the D3hoops.com poll after being ranked No. 20 a week ago. The Pioneers also checked in at No. 23 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll. Carroll went 2-0 on the week with a 79-63 win over North Park before earning a 68-48 victory over Illinois Wesleyan at Van Male Fieldhouse. Emilie Wizner scored 25 points against the Titans, while Carroll held IWU to 29 percent shooting.
Illinois Wesleyan (13-5, 8-1 CCIW) remained ranked in both national polls despite the loss. The Titans are listed at No. 19 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 22 in the WBCA Coaches’ Poll. Prior to the Carroll game, IWU had won five straight games, including a 74-52 victory over Carthage in which Ava Bardic scored 22 points.
Carroll and Illinois Wesleyan are tied atop the CCIW standings as conference play reaches its midpoint.
Nationally, NYU remains No. 1 in both polls. Scranton, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Johns Hopkins and Washington and Lee round out the top five in the latest D3hoops.com rankings. The WBCA Coaches’ Poll features the same top five, with NYU receiving 10 first-place votes.
