NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Goals were flying in this past week as CCIW play got underway with six matches. An early clash of unbeatens between Illinois Wesleyan University and North Central College ended in a 2-2 tie on Saturday, a scoreline matched by Millikin University and Carthage College that night in Kenosha. Millikin continued the high-scoring trend last night with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Wheaton College.
Conference action takes center stage over the next seven days, with four CCIW matches on both Saturday, Oct. 3 and Wednesday, Oct. 7. Elmhurst University is off to an impressive 8-2-0 start, but will have to defend its home turf against both North Central and Illinois Wesleyan to continue to stay near the top of the league standings.

National Rankings/Statistical Leaders
Remaining unbeaten after its 2-2 draw with Illinois Wesleyan over the weekend, North Central moved up three spots in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and is now No. 13 in the nation with a 7-0-1 overall record. The Cardinals come in at third in the Region VIII rankings, while the Titans (4-0-5 overall) are sixth in the region.
Millikin boasts the CCIW's most potent attack at the midway point of the regular season. Through 11 matches, the Big Blue have netted 35 times for an average of 3.18 goals per game. Defensively, five of the conference's nine squads have a goals-against average of 1.00 or less, but it is North Central leading the way in that category with just four goals allowed through eight matches for a 0.50 team GAA.
After a second hat trick of the season on Wednesday night, Millikin's Izzy Jones is up to a CCIW-best 13 goals on the season, five ahead of Illinois Wesleyan's Ava Mapes. Alaina Clark has dished out five assists through nine matches to lead the conference in that category.
North Park University's Makenna Harvey tops the goalkeeping charts with 59 saves on the season, but the best save percentages so far on the season belong to North Central's Lily Mattison (.857 in five matches) and Carroll University's Ava Lewandowski (.844 in 10 matches). Lewandowski and Augustana College's Sara Schinker are the only two keepers in the conference who have played more than 800 minutes in goal and have a GAA of less than 1.00, with Lewandowski checking in at 0.75 and Schinker at 0.93.
