Illinois Wesleyan Reaches No. 12 in Latest Men’s Basketball Top 25

NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan moved up to No. 12 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 men’s basketball poll, released following a week in which the Titans secured the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) regular-season championship outright. 
 
Illinois Wesleyan (21-4 overall, 13-3 CCIW) rose one spot in the Week 12 poll and received 361 points. The Titans are the only CCIW program ranked in the Top 25, while Carthage received 19 points in the others receiving votes category after previously holding the No. 22 spot.
 
IWU’s ranking increase followed a 2-0 week. The Titans earned a 76-71 road win at North Park on last Wednesday, which also marked head coach Ron Rose’s 200th career CCIW victory, and then defeated Augustana last Saturday, 75-56, to clinch the program’s 34th regular-season conference title. Junior Mason Funk recorded a game-high 33 points against North Park and added 29 points with five blocks against Augustana.
 
Randolph-Macon moved to No. 1 in the national poll with 597 points and 12 first-place votes. Trinity (Conn.) is ranked No. 2 with 573 points and four first-place votes, followed by Emory (No. 3, 553 points, two first-place votes), Chicago (No. 4, 552 points) and St. Thomas (Texas) (No. 5, 550 points, six first-place votes).
 
As the CCIW regular-season champion, Illinois Wesleyan secured the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the CCIW Men’s Basketball Championship. Following the quarterfinal round, the Titans are scheduled to play in the semifinal round Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Shirk Center.
