BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The 2026 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship concluded Saturday at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University, with North Central finishing atop the nine-team field. The Cardinals totaled 221.83 points across the two-day meet to secure their ninth consecutive conference indoor title and 24th overall.
Carthage placed second with 123 points, while host Illinois Wesleyan finished third with 86. Augustana followed in fourth with 72.33 points, with Carroll (48), Millikin (46.50), Wheaton (39), Elmhurst (18.33) and North Park (8) completing the final standings.
Saturday’s schedule began with the completion of the heptathlon, won by Elmhurst’s Jaedon Thompson with 4,467 points. In the field events, Carthage’s Tyler Rose completed a sweep of the throwing events by winning the shot put with a mark of 17.07 meters. Carroll’s Carlos Cadet also posted a sweep of the horizontal jumps, winning the triple jump at 14.51 meters after taking the long jump earlier in the meet. Wheaton’s Ty Bova won the high jump by clearing 2.06 meters.
Track finals included North Central victories from BJ Sorg in the mile run (4:14.42) and Randall Reed in the 200-meter dash (22.04). Carthage’s Jacob Curulewski added the 3,000-meter title in 8:29.25 after winning the 5,000 meters on Friday.
Other Saturday winners included Millikin’s Emmanuel Nwatu in the 60-meter hurdles (8.27), Illinois Wesleyan’s Evan Lowder in the 400-meter dash (48.40) and Jacob Pinkston in the 800-meter run (1:55.69) and Augustana’s Tyreke Fortney in the 60-meter dash (6.80). Illinois Wesleyan closed the meet by winning the 4x400-meter relay in 3:21.91 with the quartet of Lowder, Alex Maas, Carson Green and Dylan Hodges.
Following the championship, North Central was named the Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year under head coach Gabe Rivera. The Elite 26 Award – given to an All-CCIW performer with the highest cumulative grade point average – was presented to Reece Peters of Millikin and BJ Sorg of North Central.
Individual championship honors went to Rose as Men’s Field Student-Athlete of the Meet after winning the shot put and weight throw, and to Curulewski as Men’s Track Student-Athlete of the Meet after winning the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Carroll’s Carlos Cadet was selected as Men’s First-Year Field Athlete of the Meet for his wins in the long jump and triple jump, while Brian Smith of Carroll earned Men’s First-Year Track Athlete of the Meet recognition after podium finishes in the 200 and 400 meters.
