NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women’s outdoor track and field season continued over the past week with conference student-athletes competing at multiple meets, including the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships and distance events in California and Wisconsin.
Hurdling into the National Conversation
The hurdles events produced several notable results, highlighted by North Central’s Alivia Henkel at the Chicagoland Championships. Henkel won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.23, a personal-best time that ranks fourth in NCAA Division III this season and stands among the top performances in program history. She also contributed to a winning margin of more than six seconds in a 28-team field. Teammate Ellie Logsdon placed third in the same event (1:07.38).
North Central also advanced three athletes to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, led by Isabella Valentin’s third-place finish in 14.86 seconds.
At the Beloit Invitational, Carroll’s Tirzah Losos won both hurdle events with lifetime bests, while teammate Katelyn Duber added a personal-best performance in the 100-meter hurdles. Wheaton’s Hannah Harris placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at the Chicagoland Championships (1:07.46).
A Discus Duel and Dominance in the Ring
Throwing events continued to produce strong results across the conference. Carthage’s Jackie Tuzil won the discus at the Chicagoland Championships with a mark of 45.79 meters, placing her among the top performers nationally this season. Augustana’s Charlotte Frere also secured a discus victory at the UW-Platteville Invitational with a throw of 48.02 meters.
Carthage’s Madison Payne recorded a first-place finish in the hammer throw (48.05 meters) and added a second-place result in the shot put (13.48 meters), with the latter ranking among the top marks nationally. North Park’s Kayna Kanemoto placed third in the javelin (35.96 meters), while Illinois Wesleyan’s Taylor French won the event at the Greenville Select with a career-best 41.33 meters. Augustana’s Laina Nelson also posted a third-place javelin finish at UW-Platteville (41.28 meters).
Steeplechase Success and Distance Duels
Distance events featured competitive fields and multiple season-best performances. Illinois Wesleyan’s Adriana Crabtree recorded a time of 10:33.93 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational, placing her among the top times in Division III this season.
At the Chicagoland Championships, Wheaton’s Clodagh O’Bryant finished fourth in the steeplechase (11:40.31), followed by teammate Elizabeth LaBrin in sixth (11:44.24).
In the 5,000 meters, Augustana swept the top four positions at the UW-Platteville Invitational, led by Elizabeth Lawton’s winning time of 20:19.87. Illinois Wesleyan’s Alexia Spatz posted a time of 18:57.19 in her first outdoor 5,000 meters, while North Central’s Dylan Moeller set a freshman record in the 1,500 meters (4:40.45). Millikin’s Brooklynn Sweikar placed third in the 1,500 meters at the Greenville Select (4:44.62), and Carthage’s Brooke Nez finished third in the 10,000 meters at the Chicagoland Championships (43:02.14).
Leaping Toward the Top of the Charts
Jump events included several top performances and a facility record. Carroll’s Jenna Weis cleared 3.70 meters in the pole vault at the Beloit Invitational to set a facility record. North Central’s Gwen Berenyi won the pole vault at the Chicagoland Championships with a clearance of 3.86 meters, while Millikin’s Alexa Weter recorded a 3.35-meter clearance at the Greenville Select.
In the high jump, Wheaton’s Grace Crowder secured a victory with a mark of 1.64 meters, and Carroll’s Clare Whitney also earned a win at Beloit. Carthage’s Christina Hall won the long jump (5.55 meters), while Illinois Wesleyan’s Imani Ogunribido recorded a winning triple jump mark of 11.95 meters at the Greenville Select. Carroll’s Katelyn Duber also posted a triple jump victory at Beloit (11.35 meters).
The Fast Track: Sprints and Relays
Sprint and relay events featured large fields and competitive times. Wheaton’s Heidi Krekelberg placed fifth in the 100-meter finals at the Chicagoland Championships (12.18 seconds). North Park’s Chloe Chesser led a group of three teammates in the 200 meters, finishing 12th in 26.20 seconds, while North Central’s Cali Minkie recorded a season-best 57.85 seconds in the 400 meters.
Relay teams also produced notable results. North Central’s 4x400-meter relay finished second with a time of 3:53.92, ranking among the top performances in Division III this season. Wheaton’s 4x100-meter relay placed second (48.46 seconds), while its 4x400-meter relay team added a third-place finish (4:02.22).
Mark Your Calendars for a Busy Weekend
Conference teams are scheduled to compete at multiple meets this weekend. Augustana will host the Meet of Champions in Rock Island, featuring several conference programs.
Wheaton is set to host the Don Church Twilight Meet, with additional conference participation from North Park and Carthage. Carroll will compete at Wisconsin Lutheran.
