IWU’s Vigneri Honored After 5-1 Week in Conference Play

NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan senior Ben Vigneri has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Vigneri, a senior from Casper, Wyo., earned the award after posting a 5-1 record during the final week of the regular season. He competed at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Titans in matches against Elmhurst, Millikin and Wheaton.
 
Vigneri went 3-0 in singles play at the No. 1 position. He opened the week with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in Illinois Wesleyan’s 7-0 win over Elmhurst. Against Millikin, he recorded the Titans’ point in the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (1), 10-7 win over Gillian Nahum. Vigneri closed the regular season on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Wheaton’s Corin Tang.
 
In doubles play, Vigneri finished 2-1 during the week. He paired with Griffin Hammond for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Elmhurst and later teamed with Ian Turnbull for a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles against Wheaton on Senior Day.
