KENOSHA, Wis. — Augustana moved into first place in the team standings following Friday’s opening day of the 2026 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
The Vikings totaled 45 points through the first day of competition. Host Carthage followed in second place with 43 points, while seven-time defending champion North Central was third with 40 points. Wheaton was fourth with 21 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan with 16, Carroll with 10, North Park with nine, Millikin with seven and Elmhurst with four.
Friday’s schedule included four field event finals. Augustana’s Landon Wierenga won the hammer throw with a mark of 61.23 meters, while Illinois Wesleyan’s Gavin Gonzalez won the javelin at 58.27 meters. Isaac Whitaker of Illinois Wesleyan cleared 4.81 meters to win the pole vault and Carroll’s Carlos Cadet won the long jump with a mark of 7.07 meters.
Carthage added two titles on the track during the evening session. Harlan Matson won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:19.37, and Jacob Curulewski won the 10,000-meter run in 29:53.20.
The first five events of the decathlon were also completed Friday. Elmhurst’s Jaedon Thompson won the 100-meter dash in 11.35 seconds and the shot put with a mark of 12.46 meters. Wheaton’s Cohen Oberg won the long jump, Augustana’s Josh Vook won the 400-meter dash, and Elmhurst’s David Monteilh and Millikin’s Jack Pearce tied for first in the high jump portion of the event.
The championship will continue Saturday with the final five events of the decathlon beginning at 9:30 a.m. The decathlon schedule includes the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run.
Additional field event finals are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the high jump, shot put, triple jump and discus. Track finals are scheduled to begin at 2:40 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay and continue through the 4x400-meter relay at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 6:55 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Live results will be provided by Trackside Timing, and live video coverage will be available on the CCIW Network.
