NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University - four-time defending champions of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Golf Championship - was picked to finish first in the pre-championship coaches’ poll. The 54-hole tournament gets started on Thursday morning from the Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, Ill.
The Titans are ranked No. 18 in the nation in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Asociation Division III Coaches Poll and are off to a strong start to their fall season. In the two tournaments in which they’ve faced Division III opposition, Illinois Wesleyan won the team title at its home event, the IWU Fall Classic, and finished as runners-up at the UW-Whitewater Invite earlier this week.
In the CCIW coaches’ poll, Illinois Wesleyan finished with 62 points and had six first-place votes. Augustana College was second with 54 points and two first-place votes. The Vikings enter the weekend having won two fall tournaments and are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Region Classic in a 35-team field.
The other first-place vote in the poll went to Millikin University, who were in third place with 47 total points. The Big Blue have a pair of runner-up finishes in the fall season, including earlier this month in the one-day CCIW Preview at Metamora Fields.
Right behind Millikin in fourth place in the poll was Carthage College with 46 points. North Central was fifth with 35 points. Carroll University was slotted into sixth place with 27 points, followed by Elmhurst University in seventh with 24 points. Wheaton College was eighth, collecting 22 points. North Park University rounded out the poll in ninth place with eight points.
Tee times each day of the tournament begin at 9 a.m.
