North Central wins ninth CCIW women's cross country title in program history

KENOSHA, Wis. – North Central won its ninth College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women’s cross country title at the 2015 CCIW Championship on Saturday at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Course.
 
The Cardinals won with a team score of 35, followed by Illinois Wesleyan (59), Wheaton (63), Millikin (127), Carthage (129), Augustana (134), Elmhurst (181) and North Park (241).
 
The win was North Central’s second-straight title and fifth in the last seven years. The Cardinals’ previous CCIW women’s cross country titles came in 1992, 1993, 1995, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014. Saturday’s win earned the Cardinals’ CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
 
Millikin’s Sarah Bradley was named the CCIW Women’s Athlete of the Year after winning the 6K championship race with a time of 21:42.7. In marked the first time in conference history that a Millikin women’s runner won the individual title.
 
North Central’s Rebecca Kaefring earned CCIW Freshman of the Year honors as the highest-placing freshman with an eighth-place time of 23:02.8.
 
The Cardinals, along with the rest of the CCIW field, will take part in the NCAA Regional on November 14 in Rock Island, Illinois.
 
The top 10 finishers were designated as “all-conference first team”, while the 11-20 finishers were designated as “all-conference second team”.
