NAPERVILLE — North Central senior Abigail Penados claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week award on Wednesday morning. Penados was 4-0 for the first-place Cardinals last week.
The Morton Grove, Ill. native collected singles wins for NCC in dual matches against Wheaton last Wednesday and Augustana last Sunday. She was a 6-4, 6-3 winner from the top spot of the lineup against WC’s Madeline Gentry, then defeated Augie’s Hannah Colbert, 7-5, 6-1 at #1.
In doubles play, it was Penados and Kensington Payne at #1 that won a 6-4 decision over Gentry and Tatum Thurstone of Wheaton. The same NCC pairing posted a 6-1 triumph against Colbert and Colleen Larry of Augustana on Sunday.
