PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – Carthage owns the top spot in the women’s team standings and Wheaton has raced to the front of the men’s leaderboard after two days at the 74th annual College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
Carthage’s 330 points gives them the women’s lead in front of defending champion Augustana (306.5) and third-place Wheaton (304). The Firebirds had runner-up performances in both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay on Thursday night, while Emily Belcik had Carthage’s top individual finish with a second-place effort in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.33.
Wheaton was the winner in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.03. The first-place team in the 400 medley relay was Augustana, which clocked in at 3:58.00.
On the men’s side, Wheaton’s first-place point total after day two is 366 – one point clear of Augustana’s 365 points. Carthage is just eight points off the lead at 358 points.
Augustana boasted the winner in four events Thursday – Mark Addison’s meet-record time of 4:31.84 in the 500 freestyle, Tyler Leslie’s 200 individual medley (1:50.01), Oskar Bannister’s win in the 50 freestyle (20.83) and a relay triumph in 400 medley (3.22.70).
Carthage collected the other men’s event win on Thursday with a winning time of 1:22.90 in the 200 freestyle relay.
The championships continue Friday morning with preliminary rounds at 10:30 a.m. at the RecPlex.
